Based on your potential and challenge score, your opportunity number one would be in one of the four parts. Let’s see what are these parts are in the following figure:
Golden Fishes Area:
If your opportunity has the potential score of more than 4 and challenges less than 3, then this is a golden opportunity. Usually, opportunities in the golden area are valuable and it can eventually bring you money very fast which is also one of the major reasons behind the high demands of the customers for it.
Big Fishes Area:
This is for a potential score of more than 4 in which the challenges are also high. Usually, opportunities in this area take time and money to become valuable. Moreover, they pose risks as well however, if they become profitable, then they also have good and constant income for the company. For a case in point, pharmaceutical companies spending thousands of Euros each year for researches on new medications could also come into this domain area. Most of these investments are wasted without any positive results. On the other hand, the production of the drug could cover all of the consumed costs.
Small fishes Area:
This area is for fast but low incomes. Your opportunity cannot bring you so much amount of money however, it can perform fast and the time to have first revenue is also recorded as short. Also, opportunities in this area may not last for a long time unless they get to develop to Golden or Big fish area.
Shark Area:
This is the place for opportunities with high risk and low potential. Usually, you can forget opportunities are in this area unless you can solve their problem to bring them to small fish or find a new market for them as well as bring them to the big fishes.
Now you know these four areas and then you decide about your opportunities as well as find them the desired area. Do not try to convince yourself to push them to be good because it could also lead to a false decision.
So, be realistic and work with the numbers. Let your mind fly and find new places. Whatever you find as an opportunity you can summaries what you learn so far and put them in one of the four areas. However, in the meantime, do not forget that this navigation map is designed to compare the different options you have visually. So, try to find new options and compare them.
